THIS DEAL HAS EXPIRED – WE ARE LEAVING THIS POST HERE SO YOU CAN COMPARE ANY FUTURE OFFERS TO THIS PREVIOUS ONE.

Chase has increased the sign-up bonus for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card and the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card to 85,000 points. Bonus will post to your account after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
These cards have annual fees: $69 for the Plus and $149 for the Priority.
- Our notes: This is the highest point offering we’ve seen for these cards. Previous high was 75,000 last December. As for other offers, it seems that every February there is an offer that includes a companion pass + about 30,000 points. The companion pass offer may be better than this one, depending on how much you’re able to use it.
- Instead of this card, consider the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. Those cards allow you to transfer points to many different airline partners including Southwest and United. This will give you more reward flexibility. With the Southwest Card, you are basically locked into Southwest redemptions. Chase points are more valuable than Southwest points in our opinion.
There are a few things to point out about this deal:
- This is the highest point offering we’ve seen, but you may be able to get more value by waiting for an offering that allows for a temporary companion pass instead. That offer has happened every February for the past 3 years.
- The previous highest point offer was on (Dec-11-2023) and was for 75,000 points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
- The best offer seen recently was on February 2024 for 30,000 points plus a companion pass after meeting a $4,000 spending requirement in the first 3-months of account opening. The pass earned via that sign-up bonus expires February 2025. So the Companion Pass would have lasted less than a year in that case compared to a Companion Pass earned via regular means, which would last all of the current calendar year and all of the NEXT calendar year. There is a good chance that this type of offer happens again, NEXT February 2024, because it has been an annual occurrence the past two years.
- Instead of this card, consider the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. Those cards allow you to transfer points to many different airline partners including Southwest and United. This will give you more reward flexibility. With the Southwest Card, you are stuck with Southwest points.
- With Chase, you are likely to be denied if you have opened 5 or more cards with ANY bank within the past 24 months. Chase business cards don’t count towards the 5 card rule, but if you try to apply for one after you have opened 5 or more cards, you will likely be denied. If you are planning to apply for multiple cards, you should consider opening Chase business cards first, then Chase personal cards, and finally any other cards with any other bank.
- If you get denied and you have good credit, call their reconsideration hotline: 1-888-270-2127. Calling may not change the outcome, but there is a chance it will. You’ll also be able to get better insight in why your application was denied.
- After submitting your application you can check your application status at: 1-888-338-2586.
