  • (Updated: This deal is EXPIRED on December-11-2023 @ 9:00am EST.)

Chase has increased the sign-up bonus for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card, and the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card to 75,000 points. Bonus will post to your account after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

These cards have annual fees: $69 for the Plus, $99 for the Premier, and $149 for the Priority.

If you’re going for a Companion Pass, the best timing for meeting the spend requirement is right after the start start of next year. Doing so will get you a Companion Pass that lasts all of that current calendar year, and all of the NEXT calendar year. A companion pass will require earning 135,000 points.

There are a few things to point out about this deal:

  • The previous offer was inferior; 50,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
  • The best offer seen recently was on February 2023 for 30,000 points plus a companion pass after meeting a $5,000 spending requirement in the first 3-months of account opening. The pass earned via that sign-up bonus expires February 2024. So the Companion Pass would have lasted less than a year in that case compared to a Companion Pass earned via regular means, which would last all of the current calendar year and all of the NEXT calendar year. There is a good chance that this type of offer happens again, NEXT February 2024, because it has been an annual occurrence the past two years.
  • If you occasionally travel on Southwest then the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card is probably going to be the best pick due to it having the lowest annual fee. All three cards earn the same 75,000 point sign-up bonus after meeting the $3,000 point spending requirement.
  • Unless you travel on Southwest very often, the Plus and Priority cards are probably not going to be the best pick due to the increased annual fees. However, if Southwest is your primary airline, then the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card $75 airline credit, 3x point earnings category for Southwest, and the 7,500 annual bonus points per year perks will more than offset the annual fee cost of the card.
  • Earning the sign-up bonus in January 2024 is the way to go if you are going to try to get a Companion Pass since the earlier you meet the 135,000 point threshold, the longer you get to use the benefit.
  • Instead of this card, consider the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. It allows you to transfer points to many different airline partners including Southwest and United. This will give you more reward flexibility. The current offer is 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $8,000 in the first 3-months of being approved for the card, which is also the best offer we’ve seen for the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Cardd. It’s possible to apply for these business cards even if your business is a sole proprietorship.
  • Alternatively, the Inc Business Cash® and Ink Business Unlimited® also have increased their sign-up bonuses. The current offer is 90,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $6,000 in the first 3-months of being approved for the card. These cards have no annual fee, but don’t allow for point transfers into hotel/airline programs like the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card.
  • With Chase, you are likely to be denied if you have opened 5 or more cards with ANY bank within the past 24 months. Chase business cards don’t count towards the 5 card rule, but if you try to apply for one after you have opened 5 or more cards, you will likely be denied. If you are planning to apply for multiple cards, you should consider opening Chase business cards first, then Chase personal cards, and finally any other cards with any other bank.
  • If you get denied and you have good credit, call their reconsideration hotline: 1-888-270-2127. Calling may not change the outcome, but there is a chance it will. You’ll also be able to get better insight in why your application was denied.
