United has round-trip flights from Austin (AUS) to Denver or Chicago (DEN, ORD) for $120, NONSTOP. Flights October to March. Weekends available. Origin/Destination reversible.

United’s “Basic Economy” fares do not allow for a free carry-on bag. Only a personal item (like a small laptop bag) is free. Seats are randomly assigned for free prior to boarding.

These fares are due to United matching the Southwest 50% off sale, that we mentioned a few days ago. That sale ends today, so this sale will probably also end today.

If you use the United℠ Explorer Card, your first standard checked-bag for you and your companion is free, you get priority boarding, two United Club passes per year, and you get a 25% discount on inflight purchases on United-operated flights as a statement credit. The welcome offer for this card has recently increased to 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open, you can learn more about that deal with this link: United MileagePlus® Credit Cards: Welcome offers have increased. Now earn between 30,000 to 90,000 points depending on the card. Offer expires 8/7/2024 (linked).

Here are some other offers that we think are worth mentioning. List updated 07/16/2024.

We now list coupon codes, discount codes, gift card discounts, and credit card offers that have a better value than their historical averages.

  • (New!) Southwest Airlines 30% off (base fare, before taxes/fees) coupon-code: “PRIME” Flights Aug:6-Dec:18. We’re not really seeing many deals with this code. Other airlines have dropped their fares to a competitive level without the need to jump through a coupon-code and hidden landing page. Keep in mind that 30% off only applies to the base-fare, before taxes and fees. Southwest fares are currently only competitive with other airlines today after the coupon-code is applied. You will likely find cheaper fares on other airlines, before and after the code.
  • Airfare/Hotel coupons on Hopper: (updated daily-ish) Hopper always has discount coupons on their main page. The full list is on Hopper’s website. Keep in mind that Hopper is an OTA, so don’t expect them to honor the free 24-hour cancellation period, or to have the lowest base fare price. Hopper will try to up-sell you on a lot of extras like “cancel for any reason” policies, if you decide to use Hopper we advise that you decline all of those extras.
  • It is common to find Southwest and Alaska Airlines gift-cards for sale at a discount of about -$50 to -$20 off the redeemable value at Costco and Sam’s Club. Before you finalize your booking on either of these airlines, you should check to see if you can save more money by using a gift card.
